Allo Darlin'

Really bummed about missing this band.
I was really looking forward to Allo Darlin's show in Philly on the 17th at Kungfu Necktie.
Then I realized I had an internship obligation that night.
Oh, and that the show is 21 and over... So I was screwed anyway.

You know I'm a sucker for female vocals.  And she plays the ukulele.
Ten times better.

So, thank you, R5 Productions.
For sending me emails about shows I'd thoroughly enjoy...
if I were of age.
Thanks. Really.

Milo Greene

Hmmm, just came across this group.
I like their sound, especially the hint of a female vocal.

Milo Greene is a band based out of Los Angeles.
Unfortunately haven't seen any shows on the east coast yet.

I don't know if it's their EP or the beginning of an album,
but the group has a few songs out already on The Hello Sessions
Whatever it is, I'll be keeping an eye on it.

Ginger Coyle

So... I'm an intern with the Philadelphia Songwriters Project.
It's an organization that gives singer/songwriters a chance for their music to be heard at various venues throughout the city.
Their first contest/show was yesterday afternoon at The Blockley.
Twelve finalists from all over the region sang for a panel of judges and the top four won the opportunity to tour to different venues the rest of the summer.

There was a lot of talent, but Ginger Coyle was by far the best performer.

Her soulful, playful style stood out amongst the many male, acoustic performers.
She rocked it.

Their outfits were great.
Their harmonies were great.
Their sound was great.
I am honestly psyched to be traveling around with artists like her this summer.

Fleet Foxes

Woke up to the sound of pouring rain this morning. Thought of this album.

Fleet Foxes' new album, Helplessness Blues, is beautiful.
They are one of my select artists to listen to while running outside.
Maybe it's the whole "one with nature" ideal they seem to draw on.
Maybe it's because I'm strange.

The album came out a little over two weeks ago.
It's purpose is more complex compared to Sun Giant or Fleet Foxes.
The focus is on the lyrics, with respect to the instrumentation,
rather than on the harmonies.

Danger Mouse and Daniele Luppi

Oh my god. Oh my god.
As if he couldn't get any better...

Danger Mouse collaborating with Italian composer, Daniele Luppi.
Project: Rome.

Listen here.

Vocals included Norah Jones and Jack White...
And I believe I just peed a little.

Lykke Li

In honor of her show tonight at the TLA tonight in Philly, I will dedicate this post to Lykke Li.
She has recently become and will remain a favorite of mine.

Her Swedish sound is so unique, making her entertaining to listen to and watch.
She just released a new album, Wounded Rhymes, at the beginning of March.
And it is fabulous.

She's fabulous.
I'm royally pissed I will not be at that show tonight.

Everything Everything

These guys are weird.  Just found them, courtesy of YouTube.
Everything Everything is from Manchester, explaining the guys' interesting voices.

"We come from various places. We live in Manchester.
We like to play music for humans."
Strange.

(Couldn't decide which video I liked more: the 2009 or 2010 version.)

I find their sound quite unique; something new to listen to.
Just from their video concepts alone, I'm sure they'd be a trip to see live.
Too bad they only play in the UK.  Shame.

Yeasayer

On May 17th, Yeasayer will be performing at the Trocadero.
If life were perfect, I'd be attending that show. But sadly it is not.

Their shows are known for the psychedelic visuals.
Again.  Life is cruel.

The beginning of the song is what gets me hooked.
And I believe this video is the greatest of them all.

The Kills

I really don't know how to describe The Kills.
They're good... they're real good.
They're different... they're real different.

The Ameri-Brit duo joined together in 2000 and have dirtied their sound as the years progressed.

"Satellite" appears on their new album, Blood Pressures, which dropped last month.

The Avett Brothers

A personal favorite of mine.
Hadn't even heard of these guys until my brother suggested I give them a shot.
I clearly have an issue with folksy men with long hair and the occasional beard.

(Quick note: The guy in the middle is not a brother.  Pity.)

Need I say more?

Nostalgia 77

I love any kind of noticeable jazz influence in music.
Nostalgia 77 is a studio project gives the genre a contemporary feel.

It's run by a Brit named Benedic Lamdin, who creates his own stuff as well as collaborates with tons of other artists.  "Simmerdown" features Josa Peit.  You can find the song on Nostalgia 77's new album, The Sleepwalking Society, which was released last month.

Ah, I love it.

The American Dollar

Sometimes it's nice to not have words.
It provides a different perspective compared to today's popular music.
I think The American Dollar nails it.

Although I love live video recordings, this clip really captures the music's essence.

From their album, A Memory Stream, "Anything You Synthesize" creatively interprets its mood through the video, created by One Size Video Production

And this kid... he spent 18 hours total creating this.  Impressive.

Fallulah

She's fantastic. In every way possible.

I don't know if it's her jazzy vibrato or her amazing fashion sense.
All I know is that I'm glad I stumbled upon Fallulah's video on YouTube.
It was filmed on a rooftop in Copenhagen.  Oh, Denmark.

I would sing this every day if I knew everyone around me wouldn't kill me.

Horse Feathers

It's really all about the instruments.
If you throw in a ton of instruments, each given an intricate part to play...
you'll have me hooked.

Plus, there's nothing like feel-good music. Live.

Horse Feathers
Found Horse Feathers awhile ago; some music I like more so than others.
I like "Waltz." I like "Waltz" a lot.

Fang Island

Never heard of these guys before.
Their name is what drew me in... Fang Island.
Alright, maybe it's not that cool.

But their video for "Daisy" is.

It's just the beginning...

I'm cutting right to the chase...

"Make Some Noise."
When I heard this for the first time this weekend on the radio, I was entranced.
Beastie Boys' new album is coming...

And I'll be waiting.
